Our investment philosophy

A relationship, not a pitch

We advise first and invest second — investment follows from that relationship, never the other way around.

01.

How we work

A direct, ongoing advisor

Tim works alongside entrepreneurs as a direct, ongoing advisor, drawing on his own experience as a founder creating new platforms and products that are the basis for sustainable businesses. He helps with the decisions that shape a company’s future, from technology strategy to scaling operations to the pivotal calls that come with growth.

02.

Whose side we’re on

We stand on the entrepreneur’s side of the table

Founders raising capital are often told by traditional venture funds how much they will help. Having sat where founders sit, Tim helps them see the whole picture: the complexities of venture funding, the pitfalls and risks that can follow, and how to negotiate with confidence.

Our loyalty is to the founder and the company they are building.

03.

What we look for

Businesses that control their own destiny

That loyalty shapes the companies we choose to work with. We look for exceptional founders with a clear path to becoming cash-flow positive, and we help them get there quickly. A company that makes money controls its own destiny. It answers to its customers and its vision rather than to its next funding round.

Traditional venture capital often rewards volume over partnership and pushes founders toward high-risk growth stories. We believe in something sturdier: sound, sustainable businesses with real customers, strong unit economics, and a realistic route to lasting value.

04.

When we invest

Investment follows from the relationship

When working side by side with a founder builds real conviction in their success, Tim may then join the investment round at the right moment and when invited.

At TLR we don’t just fund companies. We advise them, stand beside their leaders, and build with them.
